GameStop reporting three amiibos have been discontinued by Nintendo

Recently there has been a lot of back and forth from Nintendo on whether or not amiibo figures would be discontinued from their original runs. Over the weekend, GameStop received an internal message from Nintendo announcing the arrival of Wave 2 of the amiibos, but that message also contained notice that three amiibos from Wave 1 would be discontinued. Those amiibos are Marth, The Villager, and the Wii Fit Trainer. This information is in line with what Satoru Iwata told investors would happen upon amiibo release.

The amiibo figure lineup for “Super Smash Bros.” will continue to be released even after this year-end sales season, and we hope that this will help to update store shelves. As store shelf space is limited, some amiibo will remain stocked on the shelves as staple choices while some will be limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out.

Kotaku reached out to Nintendo to confirm whether or not this internal message from GameStop was true, but Nintendo beat around the bush and supplied a statement similar to the one Iwata made above. They’re not giving a simple yes or no as to whether these figures have been discontinued, so until that happens you should probably assume that the internal memo is true. If you haven’t found these figures now, you might want to go on the hunt as it’s likely they won’t be available again.
