In no uncertain terms, we’re now sure that certain Nintendo amiibo will be rarer than others. Despite beating around the bush yesterday in reply to Kotaku’s inquiries, several GameStop employees confirmed they received an internal message from Nintendo of America that three amiibos would be discontinued once the second amiibo wave is released. With that said, it’s wise to pre-order any amiibo you want, as they’ll be sold out quicker than you think.
Yesterday, GameStop’s exclusive Shulk amiibo was listed as sold out, but today the company put up more for pre-order. It’s probably wise to get in while you can on this one, as GameStop has been known to use shady tactics like lowering supply in order to increase demand, as we saw with their pricing of the original Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii. We’re not saying they’ll do the same with the amiibo, but keep in mind, Xenoblade Chronicles was an exclusive to GameStop as well.
