GameCube had better third-party support from August to December than Wii U

One of the many comparisons people have started making about the Wii U is that its third party support is starting to resemble the GameCube. During the GameCube’s life cycle, many people purchased the system exclusively to play Nintendo games and didn’t buy third-party titles, leading many third-party publishers to opt out of releasing a GameCube version of their game. There are parallels here, but there’s something else interesting between the two systems.

NeoGAF user Aquamarine looked at the GameCube line up from August to December after launch, comparing it to the same period for the Wii U. These last few months will bring the life cycle of the Wii U into a full year and the line up between August and December only brings 36 games. So how many games did the GameCube have during that same period? An astounding 109 games. That’s exactly three times the number of games that the Wii U will see released in the same period.

Food for thought.
