Game & Wario may retail for $39.99 in North America

Nintendo knows that the Wii U is in much need of high quality software, and it seems that they’re taking action already. If retailers’ listings are accurate, Nintendo will be releasing Game & Wario in North America for $39.99, two-thirds the standard US retail release price.

Both Amazon and Gamestop have listed the game at this unexpectedly low price. The latter listed an initial price of $59.99, but has since slashed it to match that of Amazon.

Bestbuy’s listing sits at $59.99, but, all things considered, the price could be temporary.

Nintendo has outlined its plans to spur Wii U sales with new software, so perhaps they hope that Game & Wario will achieve for the Wii U what Nintendo Land could not. After all, this new game is a first-party family-friendly title. Its gameplay is also rather unique as far as video games go. Players of all ages can spend five minutes or several hours playing. This uniqueness and versatility could therefore help to distinguish the Wii U from other home consoles. As such, a cheaper price point would be icing on the cake, motivating casual and hardcore gamers alike to pick up a copy. All in all, a new listing of $39.99 could well be as accurate as we hope it is.

Game & Wario gets its North American release on June 23rd, but no official launch dates for Europe and the UK have been confirmed.
