Dragon Quest XI sells 2 million copies in two days in Japan

Japan loves Dragon Quest. How much do they love Dragon Quest? The latest title in the series, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, sold over 2 million copies in just 2 days in the country. Those are insane sales that even Nintendo can’t compete with.

The lead platform was the 3DS, where Dragon Quest XI sold over 1.1.million units, with the PS4 coming in second with 950k units.

The series is so popular in Japan that every time a new game is released, companies across Japan are complaining that people are calling in sick. Who are likely just staying at home playing the game.

Which is why Square Enix now only releases Dragon Quest games during weekends.

If you’re dreaming of playing the game in the West, you’ll have to wait a while: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be released in the West sometime in 2018.

And it will be released on the Switch as well, although Square Enix didn’t give a clear timeline for the Switch version.
