Developer of Nano Assault Neo, Shin’en Multimedia recently spoke about the Wii U GPU and the state of development for the Wii U in general. With third party developers like Electronic Arts trashing the Wii U before even trying to get their engines working on the system, it’s nice to hear from a developer who put in the extra effort. According to the developer, the Wii U is leaps and bounds ahead of the current generation and developers merely need to take advantage of that.

The Wii U GPU is several generations ahead of the current gen. It allows many things that were not possible on consoles before. If you develop for Wii U you have to take advantage of these possibilities, otherwise your performance is of course limited. Also your engine layout needs to be different.

Nano Assault Neo is certainly one of the best looking games for Wii U, so it seems Shin’en Multimedia know what they’re talking about when it comes to utilizing the full power of the Wii U. The system has been available for less than a year and a myriad of developers have stated it’s both easy and hard to work with. Over the next year we’ll likely see more developers speaking about their experiences with the platform, so hopefully they’ll have the same success as Shin’en.
