In the age old debate of physical versus digital media, digital media has another point struck against it this morning. Darksiders II–a release title for the Wii U–will have its digital version removed from the Wii U eShop in Europe. There is no mention made about the North American eShop and why it should get to keep its version for now.

For those wondering why this may have occurred, currently the Darksiders franchise is in the process of seeking a buyer after its publisher THQ went belly up late last year. Most of THQ’s popular properties like Company of Heroes and Saint’s Row found swift homes, but certain others were left languishing. There have been many rumors about who might want to buy the property, including Platinum Games.

As for those customers who already purchased the game digitally, you’ll be able to re-download your title at any time. Nintendo isn’t taking away access from customers who have already bought it. Future customers who might want to will have to purchase a physical copy, however.
