Chromebook Pixel announced & released – get it now from the Google Play Store!

This is by far the most exciting day of the year for any Chrome fan. Rumors have been flying! Is it real? Is the leaked video a fake? Is it even possible? Well, it is. It is very real. So real that it has been released a few moments ago and you can now purchase it straight from the Google Play Store!

It is also important to note it is not the affordable computer we were hoping it would be. The Chromebook Pixel will set you back a whopping $1,299 USD, which is not exactly the easiest price to swallow. But there must be a reason this is so pricey, right? In a way, there is. Let’s take a look at the specs.

Chromebook Pixel Specs:

  • Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 4000
  • 4 GB of DDR3 RAM
  • 32 GB SSD
  • 12.85″, 2560×1700, 400 nit display
  • Gorilla Glass multi-touch screen
  • Backlit Chrome keyboard

  • Bluetooth 3.0

In addition, users will get 1 TB of Google Drive storage and 12 sessions of GoGo Inflight internet for free. So back to the point – is this a good deal?

We would say the best features of the device are still the touchscreen functionalities and the super high resolution. Yes, it has a wide variety of ports and flexibility, but we don’t believe that makes up for paying more than $1000 extra compared to current Chromebooks. Which, ultimately, will run as fast and be as productive as the Pixel. Remember, Chromebooks don’t need that much power to be fast. The Pixel’s superior specs are probably just compensating for all the power that screen will need.

You can go ahead and make it yours by purchasing it straight from the Play Store. You can also opt for getting the 64 GB version, which also comes with LTE connectivity and goes for $1,449. The superior Chromebook Pixel ships within 6-7 weeks, so keep that in mind.

Are you getting one? If you have the money, though, this is the king of all Chromebooks. As for the rest of us with a budget to deal with, we can all cry together as we look at others enjoy the beauty of this touch-based Chrome OS device.
