Chrome browser for Windows Phone on the way?

We all know Google and Microsoft are not the best of friends. Sometimes they are forced to work together, but Google has not been willing to support Windows Phone, Microsoft’s mobile platform. Google services are a big deal, so there is no doubt this is hurting Windows Phone at least a bit. Will the situation ever change?

We will advice that you take this information with a grain of salt. There is no announcement from Google or anything like that, but recent information proves that they are at least investigating bringing the Chrome browser to Windows Phone.

We know this because a Chromium ticket issued in October 2012 (which was closed for a long time) has been brought back to life. It has been handed to Chromium team member dxie, who will now be in charge of investigating the matter.

The ticket is regarding porting Chrome to Windows Phone, which is a huge topic of interest. Windows Phone users have been begging for the Chrome browser. This does not guarantee Microsoft’s mobile platform will get the popular browser, but at least we know Google is looking into it.

Winsource Editor in Chief Joe Fedewa has told me this is much more complicated than it seems. Apparently, even if Google wanted to bring Chrome to Windows Phone, third-party browser are very limited in this platform. Windows 8.1 would have to change drastically for Google to make a browser comparable to Android or iOS.

What do you Windows phone users think, though? Are you happy with Internet Explorer or would you rather use Chrome?

Thanks, Jerry!
