Chrome Surpasses IE8 as World’s Top Browser

Web analytics firm StatCounter has released their weekly report that shows Chrome 15 is now the most popular browser in the world, finally bumping Internet Explorer from its top spot. Google’s browser just barely nudged the competition out of the way with 23.63% global share compared to IE8’s 23.5%. Firefox has been lagging behind the two for quite some time, with only 12.12% of the global marketshare. Of course these stats are only from one specific company, but there is no denying the global growth that Chrome has seen over the past year.

This can likely be attributed to many business owners dumping the older IE platform and upgrading to IE9/10 or even to Google Chrome. As Chrome’s growth continues to spread, marketshare is expected to hit the 30% mark by late January.
