This week Koji Igarashi left long time publisher Konami in order to form his own studio, similar to the move that Keiji Inafune made last year after leaving Capcom. He’s in attendance at GDC this week, where IGN asked him if he would be interested in working on the Metroid series for Nintendo.

“Whether it’s possible or not comes down to the [intellectual property] holder, which in this case would be Nintendo, and whether they want to work with me. But, if they did want to work with me, I would love the chance of doing that.”

It seems as though there are numerous developers that would be eager to work on Metroid as a series for Nintendo, should Nintendo decide to start working on another game.
