One of the most appropriate things that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can be praised for is its attention to detail that makes the world feel alive when you’re venturing forth. The highly realistic physics engine will continue to surprise you in new ways, but Nintendo’s focus on realism didn’t stop there.
Standing on a bridge like your contemplating ending your life in any other game won’t net a word from passing NPCs, who seem just as happy to let you be as the rest of the dead virtual worlds they belong to. But think about it. If you saw someone gazing out over a bridge while standing on what is supposed to be the safety railing, what would you do? Would you do what Brigo does?
Brigo calls out to the player and attempts to talk them down off of the bridge, because what appears to be taking place is a very grim scene to someone who is just passing by.
Once he manages to talk you off the bridge, he admonishes you for getting up there in the first place and worrying him.
And he even offers to stay and chat with you for a bit, if you feel like you need a friend.
This level of realism is exactly why Breath of the Wild deserves the astounding level of praise it has gotten since it released just a week ago. I’ve continually astounded myself with new moments in the game, but seeing someone on Twitter experience this level of detail is just mind-blowing.
