Black Wii U console and several bundles being phased out in Japan

Nintendo of Japan has confirmed that it is phasing out the original black Wii U console, as well as several bundles that include the black console. The current models available in Japan are the original 8GB model that was phased out in the rest of the world, and a 32GB white Wii Sports Club bundle.

Bundles that are getting the axe in Japan include the Wii Party U bundle, New Super Mario Bros. U bundle, Dragon Quest X bundle, and the Monster Hunter 3G bundle. It interesting to see the color disparity between Japan and the rest of the world, as Nintendo has all but phased out the 8GB white console in North America and Europe. It’s not likely that the black console is disappearing entirely since it’s been included in the Mario Kart 8 bundle in the West, but perhaps Japanese gamers prefer the white color.
