Bayonetta anime feature film coming to North America

Funimation will bring the Japanese anime feature film Bayonetta: Bloody Fate to North America, the company announced recently. It’s based on the popular Bayonetta franchise, which is now a Wii U exclusive, thanks to a deal between Nintendo and developer Platinum Games.

The anime feature film features Bayonetta (of course), who is suffering from amnesia and who is on a quest to regain her memory. The movie is produced by Japanese animation house Gonzo, and was released in Japan last year. The voice actors in the movie will reprise their roles in the upcoming Bayonetta 2 Wii U game.

There is no release date for the film, but it’ll probably take a while, as new voice actors will have to be cast and a proper marketing campaign developed — the usual movie stuff which can take a few months. Director Fuminori Kizaki will be at this year’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles to showcase the movie. You can check out the Japanese trailer for Bayonetta: Bloody Fate above.

Nintendo will launch the Wii U-exclusive Bayonetta 2 (which will include the original Bayonetta as well) this Summer in Japan, while Westerners will have to wait until this Fall.
