Axiom Verge getting physical release on Nintendo Switch

A few weeks ago I wrote a post detailing how the Nintendo Switch will eventually replace the PS Vita. Up until this point, the PS Vita has been the go-to handheld for those of us who like playing indie games that usually only get released on PC. Axiom Verge is one of the PS Vita titles that’s on my “must come to Switch list” so I’m happy to see that Tom Happ is working on a Switch version.

The news was confirmed by the World 1-1 podcast, who interviewed the developer, Tom Happ. He confirmed that a Switch retail release of Axiom Verge is currently in the works and will include a physical manual and possibly a documentary about the game and a soundtrack. Sounds like they’re going all in on this version of the game and the physical release will be similar to that of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+.

This is great news for Switch owners, since Axiom Verge is everything a modern Metroidvania should be. Fans of Super Metroid who have been clamoring for a new Metroid game will find a lot to love and I’m just happy to see more great indie games headed to Switch.

There’s no release date right now, but just knowing it’s coming is a balm to my soul.
