According to Assassin’s Creed producer Martin Shelling and lead designer Jean-Sebastien Decant, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag for Wii U will lie visually between current generation and next generation consoles. This is a similar statement that was made about Watch Dogs last week, where the team said the game was visually closer to current generation consoles, but slightly better.

“It will be I think, in between the current gen and next gen consoles. We could have had some of the tools from the companion on the second screen, but because the companion app will be available with Wii U too we didn’t include them.”

It’s interesting to see many of Ubisoft’s major developers discussing the visual fidelity of the Wii U versions of their games. With Splinter Cell: Blacklist we saw a graphical comparison that showed the Wii U version certainly looked better than the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions, so that’s to be expected with these upcoming releases. However, both Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4 will be releasing on next generation hardware, where as Splinter Cell: Blacklist will not.

What do you think of these developments?
