UPDATE: The Apex staff has secured another venue that will house the tournament and will begin setting up there, so it looks like the show will go on. Here’s the official tweet.

This year’s Apex 2015 tournament is off to a rough start after several complications forced attendees to evacuate. First, the complication was assumed to be someone pulling a false fire alarm, but it was soon discovered that thanks to the blizzard-like weather, one of the ballrooms housing the tournament pools scheduled to be played today collapsed. You can see a picture of the top of the parking garage where the collapse occurred above.

This left many of Apex’s staff unsure of what could be done to ensure the tournament goes on, as Apex 2015 is scheduled to be the biggest tournament in years. Here’s a quick look at everything scheduled this weekend:

Aside from that, this was to be the biggest Smash Melee tournament ever, with a playable Splatoon demo and supposedly, announcements from Nintendo regarding the future of competitive Smash and their involvement in the scene. After the collapse, the fire marshalls who responded to the call deemed the venue unsafe to continue housing the tournament, so it’s unclear what will happen. It’s likely that the venue will be moved and everyone attending will need to go to the new location.

If you were looking forward to watching the streams for Apex this morning during the tournament pools, you’ll have to wait as the organizers get everything prepped after this unfortunate turn of events.
