Nintendo explains why making amiibo is hard and shortages arise

A few days ago we reported that Nintendo of Japan has plans to re-release some of the more popular amiibo that sold out nearly immediately in their initial run. These included Captain Falcon, Little Mac, and the Villager. Yesterday we got reports that certain Best Buy stores across the United States were receiving new shipments of Little Mac amiibo, but details for the other two were scarce. This has led many people to ask what takes so long for Nintendo to produce amiibo?

Certainly the West Coast port strike that is now ended impacted supply, but Nintendo says the production chain for amiibo is actually several months long because of how intricate some of the figures are. According to them, some of them are even made by hand because of the complexity.

While these three figures are by no means the most rare amiibo, Nintendo says it gauges consumer demand for them from retailer and fan feedback on social media and the like. It seems the best way to contribute to the discussion is to let Nintendo know upfront that you’re having a hard time finding a particular amiibo and perhaps it’ll be considered for a re-print.
