Amiibo can only save data for one game at a time, read only games unaffected

With the announcement of the third wave of Amiibo figures today, Nintendo also clarified some information about how the figures will interact with all the planned games. Nintendo of Japan updated their official amiibo website today with new information that includes the fact that figures will only be able to store save data from one game at a time due to limited space.

Currently Super Smash Bros. is the only game that writes data to the figure, but in the future if a game is released that has the same feature, you’ll have to choose whether to erase your old data from another game, or purchase a new figure for use with the new game.

This restriction is not in place for read-only data, which is what games like Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors use. Nintendo of Japan’s website update confirmed that Toon Link, Sheik, and Zelda figures would all be compatible with Hyrule Warriors once they’re released. This news is pretty unfortunate as it limits the scope of amiibo figures for future games that may want to have smart figures similar to Super Smash Bros.

Does this affect your purchasing decision at all?
