Over the course of the last week several rumors surfaced about Super Smash Bros., including one that would allow for 8 players on the Wii U version. Today during the Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct, the 8 player Smash mode was confirmed. In order to make this possible, several larger stages were designed for the action to take place. The Direct confirmed that the reason this mode isn’t in the Nintendo 3DS version is the resolution is too small.
The only downside of 8 player smash is that it is local only and you will not be able to play online. However, if you’ve got seven friends who are into Smash and you want to wreck face, you’ll be able to do so simultaneously now. Great!
