Although the upcoming story of Xenoblade Chronicles X is shorter than the story written for the original Xenoblade Chronicles, developer Monolith Soft has revealed that it took nearly a year and a half just to write the script for the game. Koh Kojima said most of the writing was done by producer Tetsuya Takahashi.

“Come to think of it, Takahashi-san wrote a lot. I’ve worked with Takahashi-san for a long time, but this was the first time I’ve seen him write so much for a game’s plot. It was as if he was writing a novel.”

Fans of the original Xenoblade Chronicles know that alongside the main story there are hundreds of side quests that residents and citizens will ask you to undertake in order to make their lives easier, so given that each one of these quests must have a story background, it’s not surprising to hear that a game with Xenoblade Chronicles X’s length had a huge writing time.
