Xenoblade Chronicles X director Tetsuya Takahashi spoke on Twitter today about external artists working with Monolith Soft to create weapons and other assets to help solidify the look of the game. Takahashi had high praise for the designers, especially Hideyuki Matsumoto. Takahashi elaborated by saying that Matsumoto helped out on Xenosaga and is very knowledgeable about weaponry, so Mr. Matsumoto’s job revolves around designing the weapons that characters will use.

he introduction of outside designers ends with Mr. Hideyuki Matsumoto. We both worked at the same company before and he helped out with Xenosaga, too. He’s very knowledgeable about things related to weaponry, so for this project I put him mainly in charge of designing the weapons the characters will use.

Matsumoto’s previous projects include Front Mission 4 and 5, and Armored Core 3. Takahashi also mentioned that the background design for Xenoblade Chronicles X is being handled by a design firm called Kusanagi Company. According to him, they’re very adept at creating 3D models based on drawings.

They’re a professional group used to creating 3D models based on drawings, so I can always leave things to them without worrying.

Kusanagi Company has previously worked on several popular games, including the Nintendo DS version of Ni No Kuni and Persona 4. It seems like Takahashi has assembled quite the team of talented designers to assist in creating assets and backgrounds for the game. We can’t wait to see more.
