Wonder Boy secret lets you play with both graphic styles

Like with any game, players have discovered a hilarious easter egg with Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. Normally, Wonder Boy allows you to choose if you’re playing with the new, modern graphics or the retro graphics found on the Sega Master System version. It’s as simple as pressing ZR.

If you press ZR enough times, the transition screen will get stuck, allowing you to play with both graphic styles at the same time. It’s pretty trippy going through the game with 8-bit graphics on one side and modern graphics on the other. The difference in detail between the two makes it even weirder.

Here’s how to replicate the easter egg if you’re interested:

What you’ll need:

  • Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap
  • Nintendo Switch (Note: this easter egg is present on other platforms too)
  • A controller

How to freeze the transition:

  • Keep mashing ZR until the transition starts to slow down.
  • That’s it really. If you want the line in a specific spot, when the transition starts to slow down, release ZR until you get to that sweet spot. Afterwards, go back to mashing until it freezes.
