Wii U sold just 43,000 units in April (NPD leak)

Wii U sold just 43,000 units in April

According to leaked NPD numbers, the Wii U sold just 43,000 units in April 2015, compared to PS4 sales of 175,000 units, and Xbox One sales of 187,000 units. The Wii U accounted for just 10% of current generation console sales.

Nintendo didn’t comment directly on NPD’s sales numbers, but did release a statement saying that Wii U sales were up 15% in April 2015 compared to the same period last year.

While the Wii U doesn’t seem to be doing that well in North America, recent Japanese sales numbers revealed that it has 5 games in the top 20 best selling list last week.

Last week, publisher Ubisoft, who was a big supporter of the Wii U when it launched, revealed that last year the Wii U accounted for just 1% of its total game sales.

Hopefully Wii U sales will pick up once Splatoon is released later this month. And it’ll be interesting to see what Nintendo will showcase at E3 next month, as it looks like the Wii U could really use a big hit now, especially since Zelda has been delayed until 2016.
