Wii U sales in Japan go up 1,500% after new bundle is released

We’ve previously seen spikes in Wii U sales — last quarter Nintendo almost doubled sales of the Wii U in the US. Now, according to Japanese sales tracker Media Create, Wii U sales skyrocketed last week in Japan due to a new bundle.

According to Media Create, the Wii U sold almost 39,000 units last week, compared to just 2,500 units the week before. This represents an increase of around 1,500%.

What’s the reason for this huge increase in sales? A brand new Japanese Wii U bundle. The new (Deluxe) bundle includes Wii Party U, New Super Mario Bros. U, a Wiimote Plus, and a 30-day trial of Wii Karaoke U.

Besides strong sales of the Wii U, Nintendo’s Wii Party U also sold well last week. Wii Party U sold over 37,000 units, in addition to the bundled sales with the new Deluxe package.

Hopefully these strong sales will continue throughout the holiday season, and hopefully we’ll see a similar sales spike in the rest of the world. Nintendo has a number of different bundles for each territory, like the Wii Party U bundle seen above.
