Wii U sells 101k in Japan during Christmas week

Last week the Wii U managed to top 80k sales the week before Christmas and that sales momentum has carried forward into this week as well. Nintendo managed to sell 101k Wii U units this week, which is staggering considering the same week last year, Nintendo only managed to move 48k in the same week. That just goes to show what having a strong game catalogue can do for console sales.

Of the top thirty software titles in Japan last week, 20 of the spots were taken by Nintendo titles, either on the 3DS or the Wii U. The breakdown is 18 3DS games and 7 Wii U games. Remember, the number to the right shows the game’s position on the charts last week. Several Wii U games that had fallen off the charts reappeared this week, including Mario Kart 8 and the Japan-exclusive Yo-Kai Watch Dance.
