Nintendo has released their quarterly financial results for April through June of 2013, posting an overall profit. Net sales for the quarter were 81.5 billion yen ($834 million), which saw a decline from 84.8 billion yen ($868 million) of the same quarter in 2012. Operating income losses were down compared to last quarter as well, down to just 4.9 billion compared to 10.3 billion the previous year. An overall net profit for Nintendo of 8.63 billion ($88 million) was reported, which is huge considering the loss of the previous quarter at 17.23 billion.
Despite these strong numbers, it’s clear the Wii U hasn’t done much to contribute, however, as worldwide sales for the console only reached 160,000 units. Of that number, 90,000 were sold in Japan, with North America shifting 60,000 units. Both Europe and Australia sold a paltry 10,000 units in three months, which explains why retailers like Asda are dropping the Wii U from their shelves.
The real hero of this financial quarter for Nintendo was of course the 3DS, which shifted 1.4 million units worldwide with software sales of 11 million.
