Wii U might support two controllers

When the Wii U was announced at E3 2011, Nintendo revealed that they had plans of only supporting one touchscreen Wii U controller. Now however, several bits of information are coming out from Nintendo, suggesting that the Wii U might support more than on controller. Here’s what Nintendo’s Matt Ryan recently said:

“Let me correct something that is a misconception, we said that the Nintendo Wii U system will come with one Wii U controller, but we haven’t said that you can only use one Wii U controller. The fact is that if the developer makes a game or an experience that uses more than one, then anything is possible”.

Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata had some other thoughts, when he recently pointed out in an interview that they’re focusing on what they can do with one controller, as the costs of including or selling an additional controller would be steep. Iwata noted that developers are making games that utilize only one Wii U controller. The Wii U supports regular Wii games and regular Wiimote and nunchuck controllers as well.

Because of its advanced technology and touchscreen, the Wii U controller, if sold separately, would most likely top $100 — twice the price of a regular controller.
