Hardware data is pretty elusive from NPD reports these days, as unless a manufacturer shares the information to toot their own horn like Sony and Microsoft often do, we’re left with just a guess of how many consoles sold in a given period. While some industry insiders have access to the numbers, at best it’s still just unconfirmed leaks from typical sources.

The NeoGAF forums are big on discussing the sales patterns of all three top manufacturers and according to Creamsugar, a prolific NPD leaker, Nintendo managed to sell 46k Wii U units in the United States during July. The PlayStation 4 was still the top-selling console of the month and we know Xbox One sales are up nearly 50% year-over-year, which puts it in second place at around 189k within the month of July. As you can see that’s pretty steep compared to the Wii U’s numbers, but given the software disparity between the two it’s admirable.
