Wii U goes on display at Japanese retailers

The Wii U launch in Japan is just a few days away, and retailers have already started displaying Wii U games and accessories, according to photos of a Japanese shop.

The below photos were from Yodobashi in Kyoto, where several games were on display, and it looked like they were on sale as well. The Wii U launches in Japan on December 7, and will start at around $350 for the Basic set and $400 for the Deluxe set.

Unlike in other territories, the Deluxe set won’t include a game. Instead, it will feature a two-year subscription to Nintendo Network Plus, which would give Japanese gamers discounts on online sales and free games.

While most of the Wii U console sales will happen in the US and Europe (due to larger markets), Japan is still a very important territory for Nintendo — it’s the homeland of the company and success there is crucial these days due to a weak Yen, which means overseas profits are not as hefty as they used to be.
