Wii U GamePad costs around $140 to replace

Until now we’ve not really known what it would cost to replace the GamePad for the Wii U should something happen to it. Nintendo isn’t allowing it to be sold as a separate accessory which is wise, since it keeps grandmas everywhere from thinking the Wii U GamePad is just another Wii accessory. So what happens if you need your GamePad replaced? Well, you have to fork over $140 it seems.

A gamer on the NeoGAF forums had his luggage lost by Delta Airlines, which included his Wii U GamePad. After calling Nintendo for a replacement, his credit card is being billed $150+ after shipping. Ouch. Here’s proof:

It would seem that the Wii U GamePad is more expensive to manufacture than previously thought, which is why Nintendo has been so adamantly against price cuts for its new console. For $150+, you could have a brand new 3DS. This is also likely why there will not be multiple GamePad support in the future.
