For Nintendo fans who rabidly collect Club Nintendo coins on every purchase, the current situation with the Wii Shop on Wii U may give you pause to purchasing old games on your new system. Buying WiiWare or Virtual Console games through the Wii U’s Wii Mode doesn’t generate the coin value of those purchases.
There is currently no way to link your Club Nintendo account to the virtual Wii within the Wii U, so any coins generated through purchases are lost. I learned this the hard way when I went to purchase some of my favorite Super Nintendo games on my new console. For those of you who still have the Wii, you can still buy whatever you’d like on it, get the coins, and then transfer the data to the Wii U. That’s a hassle no one should have to go through, so hopefully Nintendo rectifies this mistake in a future update.
