Walmart lists “Zelda 2” game for Wii U in Q4 2014

Walmart Zelda 2

Walmart has a crazy listing for an unannounced “Zelda 2” game for the Wii U, and they’re charging $99 bucks for it. These sort of listings aren’t new in the retail sector, but usually retailers put up placeholder games because they have some information from the publisher — that way, they can open up for pre-orders as soon as possible.

Does this mean we’ll be seeing a new Zelda game on the Wii U in Q4 2014? Possibly. Walmart (and other retailers) never put up placeholder titles unless they know something is coming, even if it’s unannounced. Here’s what Walmart’s product decription reads:

“The Legend of Zelda Wii U (Working Title), a Nintendo console exclusive, is a pre-release general action game to be released in Q4 of 2014.”

While Walmart may be onto something, we’re wondering why they named it “Zelda 2” — clearly it’s not the second Zelda game in the series, even though it would technically be the second Zelda game on the Wii U (after Wind Waker HD). We’re nost sure how the new Zelda game will looks but series producer Eiji Ainuma has said that it will feature a unique art style.

We’ve heard plenty of rumors about a new Wii U Zelda game. Our report back in 2012 pinned 2014 as a release date, and last year, Nintendo said that a new Zelda was at least one year away. Furthermore, Nintendo showcased a new Zelda HD game at E3 2012 when they unveiled the Wii U. Officially, that Zelda game was only a tech demo. Nintendo has high hopes for the next Zelda game, saying that it must “create a unique experience that’s beyond expectations“.

You can find Walmart’s listing here, and pre-order if you like. We’d prefer to wait until E3 to see what Nintendo announces — Eiji Aonuma said that they’ll reveal more information about the game at E3 2014.
