During the last Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that Wave 4 of its amiibo line will be launching on May 29. During the presentation, we learned that several retail outlets will have amiibo exclusives, similar to previous waves. Toys R Us will be getting Greninja as its exclusive and according to one Toys R Us representative, the outlet will only be taking pre-orders for Greninja & Pac-Man during the in-store pre-order event on April 27.
The other amiibo in Wave 4 that are not exclusive to another outlet will not be available for pre-order in stores that day, so you’ll have to wait until the amiibo go live in stores on May 29 in order to get those. If you do want to pre-order Greninja or Pac-Man on April 27, you’ll need to head to a local Toys R Us to do so, as they won’t be making pre-orders available online.
It looks like the solution to the overwhelming demand for their retailer-exclusive amiibo is to make the pre-order period a lot more limited and more focused in order to prevent scalpers from snapping up multiple orders online under different names and addresses.
