Tip Of The Day: How to Ping and Tracert on Chromebook

You might not even know what the heck “Ping” and “Tracert” mean, yet when someone is walking you through troubleshooting something they may ask you to do a ping or traceroute. They could explain how to do it on Windows or Mac but they MAY not know how to do it on a Chomebook. Fortunately, you soon will.

  1. CTRL+ALT+T will open up the command prompt
  2. Type “ping webaddresshere.com” – replacing “webaddresshere.com” with the address or IP you want to ping
  3. Type “tracepath webaddresshere.com” – replacing “webaddresshere.com with the address or IP you want to traceroute.
  4. Obviously hit enter after typing in desired action (without quotes) and let it run!
  5. Type “exit” and press enter to go back to your normal Chromebook experience

Hope this helps both you and any IT specialist looking to troubleshoot a Chromebook!
