The Wii U is officially dead

A few months ago, Nintendo hinted at ending Wii U production, and now they’ve finally done it.

Nintendo of America issued a statement saying that Wii U production has ended worldwide.

It all started when the Japanese Wii U page featured the note: “Production End (Within Japan)”. Nintendo later confirmed that this is the case for the other territories as well.

The Wii U launched back in 2012 and has sold 13.7 million units worldwide, making it the fewest-selling Nintendo home console ever.

Over the past few months, Nintendo distanced themselves from the Wii U, with Shigeru Miyamoto going as far as saying that the Wii U was just a “necessary step” towards the Switch.

Wii U’s successor, the Switch, launches on March 3rd.
