Switch sells 2.74 million units during first month

Nintendo has revealed the official Switch sales numbers for the console’s first month: 2.74 million units sold worldwide. That’s way above anyone’s expectations, even Nintendo’s.

The company expected to sell about 2 million units during the first month, but after pre-order numbers came in, they increased production to meet demand.

They are now estimating to sell an additional 10 million Switch consoles by March 31st, 2018. That would bring Switch sales to almost 13 million units by this time next year.

Previously, Nintendo expected to sell 10 million instead of 13 million units during year one.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said he was “relieved” that consumers have accepted the Switch. He believes that the console can eventually sell 110 million units, surpassing the Wii.
