Switch outsells PS4 and Xbox One in America in July

NPD has released video game sales rankings for last month, and the Switch is back to the number one position as the best selling video game console in North America.

There were no specific console sales numbers (as usual), but they confirmed that the Switch was the best selling console last month, followed by the PS4 and then the Xbox One.

Not only that, the Nintendo Switch seems to be driving the entire console business right now, as NPD’s Mat Piscatella puts it, “Performance of the Nintendo Switch continues to be the primary cause of the year-on-year gains”.

And as expected, the Switch was the best selling console because Nintendo increased supply ahead of Splatoon 2 launch.

Sales of video games in July were up 20 percent compared to the same month last year.

On the software front, Nintendo also took the top spot: Splatoon 2 was the best selling game in July. Two more Switch titles were in the top 10: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #5 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at #7.
