Back of Switch game cases show every play mode

As we already know, the Nintendo Switch supports a variety of play styles. From TV mode to handheld mode, there’s something for everyone. However, what’s not been clear, thus far, is how we’ll be able to tell which games support which play styles. Well, thankfully the back of Nintendo Switch game cases have us covered.

First thing’s first: a Reddit post showing the back of the box for 1-2-Switchย provides a very clear picture of Nintendo’s play mode guidelines. As you can see from the picture above, this title in particular supports both TV and Tabletop mode but won’t be playable in Handheld mode (a move that makes sense since it relies heavily on motion controls).

The information even goes as far as to note more important details like how many players are supported in certain gameplay modes and how many players can join in the fun in each play mode.

Yesterday, YouTube user “Gaijinhunter” gave us a look at the Japanese box art for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. As you can see from the image, Breath of the Wild supports all three play modes each, with singleplayer support only.

As for how this information will be conveyed on the Nintendo eShop, we’d have to guess that you’ll see things like supported play modes and player counts in the game’s description. It’ll be interesting to see how prominent play mode info is on the eShop though, considering how important that is for Switch buyers. After all, wouldn’t want to buy a game, only to find out it doesn’t support the way you want to play it.
