Super Smash Bros. for Wii U “years away”

Super Smash Bros. Wii U
Nintendo spawned a lot of excitement among fans of the Super Smash. Bros series by announcing a new game in the series for the Wii U. However, according to Nintendo lead designer Masahiro Sakurai, we’ll have to wait several years before seeing Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U, and mentioned that he was surprised by the early announcement of the game. In his weekly column in Japanese game magazine Famitsu, he said (translated by 1UP),

“I’m not sure it’s the smartest thing to make gamers wait for several years, but the early announcement was made chiefly in order to attract new team members.”

He continued, adding that he and his team intended to make a 3DS version of Super Smash Bros., but the Wii U version was announced, and it meant that Sakurai now had to make two Super Smash Bros. games., one of which (the Wii U version), won’t be out until a few years later.
