Super Mario Odyssey has no “Game Over” screen

Apparently, you’ll never see the “Game Over” screen in Super Mario Odyssey. According to Nintendo, players will instead lose 10 coins and keep playing. And even if the player has less than 10 coins available, he’ll still be able to continue playing.

After losing ten coins, Mario will respawn at the latest checkpoint, which are spread all over the level. As for coins, they’re easy to gather (as the GIF shows below, the player has thousands).

Not only that, Odyssey has also removed the idea of “lives” and 1-UPs from the game.
