Solid Explorer streams local content to Chromecast

Streaming local files to Chromecast is a bit of a novelty. This feature was not allowed until recently, when the Google Cast SDK was released for developers. So far, only the popular AllCast app from ClockworkMod developer Koushik Dutta has allowed us to Cast local content. It was only a matter of time before another app implemented said feature, and AllCast now has some competition.

Solid Explorer is an Android app with a solid number of users. It is a file manager users download to organize their phone’s files. Because of the nature of such apps, it only makes sense that some of these would include Chromecast features. It is a natural step, you can already browse for files – why not Cast them directly from the app?

This is exactly what Solid Explorer has done with the latest feature. You can now cast the videos you browse within Solid Explorer.

Price

Now, this app does come with a small price. And it is a bit cheaper than AllCast. Of course, AllCast does offer much more options and functionality, though. Solid Explorer will cost you $1.99, but you can download a trial and test it out for a while before you decide to spend your hard-earned cash on it.

Download

solid-explorer-thumbSolid Unlocker’s Chromecast feature works from a separate app, which works as a plug-in. You need to download the original app (and trial unlocker), as well as the Solid Explorer Cast Plugin.

I know it can be a bit annoying to have to download 3 apps just to have all the features and functionality work, but the Solid Explorer guys may have a reason for that. At the end of the day, we do wish it could be more simplified, though.

If you would like to check it out, though, here are the Google Play Store download links!

Check it out and let us know what you think! Will you be using Solid Unlocker or AllCast? Maybe both?
