Nintendo and the Splatoon developers have done an excellent job of keeping us abreast of the world of the new multi-player shooter, but we haven’t seen much said about the single-player until now. A few recent tweets sent out by the Splatoon developers have highlighted how players will access the single-player portion of the game, as well as the crazy old man who guards the area. So far we’ve seen shop characters from Splatoon take on crazy inspiration from sea life and Captain Atarime is no different.

The text sent with the tweet that showcases his character design describes the old man as someone who has long overseen the war between the Inklings and the Octopi and that Captain Atarime watches over the Octopi to make sure they’re not up to anything that could wipe out the Inklings.
The old man is ‘Commander Atarime’ in Japanese. According to himself, he’s a hero from a great turf battle between the Octopi and Inklings and watches over the octopus army corp to make sure they’re not doing bad stuff.
Famitsu will be publishing new information on Splatoon every few weeks, so expect to see more information about the game in the coming months as we ramp up into its release date.
