A few months ago we told you that Renesas Electronics, the factory that manufactures the eDRAM for the Wii U was in financial trouble due to not enough production for Nintendo and the Wii U. The factory was expected to close thanks to sluggish sales of the Wii U, but if recent sources are correct, Sony could be buying the factory at Tsuruoka.
This likely won’t have any repercussions for Nintendo even if the chip were to stop being manufactured at the plant, but now if the sale does go through at least the factory won’t have to close down completely.
