Nintendo dominated social media mentions during E3

While it’s always fun to speculate who won E3 based on the amount of content showed, it seems Nintendo really did win the show in terms of getting people to talk about the games it was showing. Crimson Hexagon is a social media monitoring service that checks just how often brands are mentioned within a certain time period of events. The results of last week’s E3 show are that 47% of gaming-related tweets were about Nintendo products. The single most popular tweet was from Nintendo of America’s account, announcing that Shigeru Miyamoto would be on the live-stream.

So how did the competition fare versus Nintendo’s 47% of all relevant tweets? Sony managed to take 28% of the pie, while Microsoft took 25%. It’s clear there’s a lot of buzz generated by Nintendo, probably because the Treehouse live-streams kept new information flowing and kept people interested in finding new information about their favorite games, while new information about Sony and Microsoft games were only leaked through official game channels like GameSpot and IGN.

Nintendo’s digital approach seems to be paying off rather well for the company.
