Smash Bros champion is “burned out”, won’t participate in upcoming tournament

Gonzalo “Zero” Barrios, the best Super Smash Bros Wii U player in the world, is skipping an upcoming tournament because he’s simply burned out after participating (and winning) in every single Smash Bros tournament for almost a year. He was so good that he even had a bounty on his head.

Barrios’ current streak is 35 consecutive Smash Bros tournament wins, but that streak didn’t come easy for him.

In a recent interview, he says he feels “burned out” after playing professionally and competing all the time, especially when he spends “long hours of practice every day”.

In a statement, Barrios wrote:

“Most of my time is spent in working on my YouTube channel, and other aspects of my life, the rest of the time is practice. But since I haven’t been able to do that, I simply don’t feel mentally prepared to compete at such a tournament right now.”

He’s referring to the upcoming Paragon Smash Bros tournament in Los Angeles. Barrios’ statement also reveals that he’s been stressed out a lot simply from too much Smash Bros.

“I haven’t been sleeping properly, practicing properly, and I just don’t feel well in general. I’m too stressed, burned out and tired from everything. I need a break, and that’d help me get back on my Smash ways.”

However, expect Barrios to be back soon. He says that this is just a break, and that he’ll be back “stronger than ever” for the Big House 5 tournament.
