Shovel Knight director on the Switch porting process

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove was one of the Nintendo Switch launch titles alongside the spin-off Specter of Torment. Right now, the Nintendo Switch is the only handheld that features multiplayer support in the game, since the Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita versions left that out and you needed the Shovel Knight amiibo to unlock it for Wii U.

Game director Sean Velasco recently spoke to Game Rant about the process of porting a game from the Wii U to the Nintendo Switch, revealing that Nintendo has been more than accommodating.

“It was not too bad! Every platform has its challenges, especially prepping a game for launch! Everyone is figuring it all out for the first time, so there are definitely some bumps in the road. But Nintendo was really helpful and accommodating along the way.”

Velasco says he hopes the ease of porting games to Nintendo Switch will encourage other Wii U developers to do the same so that Switch owners can experience those games they may have missed out on.
