Sega has announced that its child company, Index Corporation, will split into two companies – Atlus and Index – on the 1st of April this year.

Simultaneously, the Western subsidiary, Index Digital Media, will be renamed to Atlus USA, Inc.

Sega says that this venture will boost the creative productivity within Sega Sammy as well as each industry under the Sega umbrella.

Atlus will comprise 121 staff. They will be responsible for game development, testing, and everything else game-related. Yukio Sugino, Sega’s managing director and Index company director, will represent this division.

Index will comprise 166 staff. They will be in charge of online marketing, content delivery and system upgrades. This division will be overseen by Index representative director and executive vice president Yasuhiko Hamada.

In an official statement, Naoto Hiraoka, senior vice president of the Consumer Software Division of Index Corporation and CEO of Index Digital media, took the time to thank fans for their continued support. Regarding the company’s division, he had this to say:

As a part of the Sega Sammy group, we are determined to explore new ways of creating synergy and to expand our brand awareness around the world. Additionally, we have many undisclosed titles in the works. We hope that you look forward to these as much as we do.

It will be interesting to see what this new direction will mean for the company and its franchises.
