Switch Pro Controller works on PC, Mac, and Android

Somehow, YouTuber “DreWoof” managed to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller days before the system and controller’s launch. In a new video, they’ve confirmed that the controller works on PC and Macs and Android devices.

When using the controller on a PC or Mac, you’ll need to connect via Bluetooth. The controller won’t work with a USB cable. Also, these two devices recognise the controller as a DirectInput device.

This means two things: first off, most PC games won’t recognise the controller natively as they tend to support Xbox controllers first and foremost which use Xinput. However, this also means that Valve could integrate the controller into Steam as they did with other DirectInput devices like Sony’s DualShock 4. Theoretically, this would allow you to remap buttons as you please, and maybe even tinker with HD Rumble.

And here’s a video of DreWoof using the controller to play Super Smash Bros. Melee via Dolphin on PC.
