Pokken Tournament announced on NicoNico, arcade only

In the middle of last year during Nintendo’s E3 presentation, they showcased a short sequence that appeared to be a Pokemon fighting game. The scene had Lucario preparing to face-off against Blaziken and that’s pretty much all we heard from the game aside from various trademarks being filed across the globe for something called Pokken Fighters and Pokken Tournament. Now it looks like Nintendo is ready to pull the cat out of the bag, as it debuted Poken Tournament last night on Japanese streaming site NicoNico.

The president of the Pokemon Company Tsunekazu Ishihara announced the game on the livestream and is the shocking announcement that was teased a few weeks ago. The game is currently in development by Tekken’s producer Katsuhiro Harada and Bandai Namco, aiming to hit Japanese arcades by 2015. Right now it’s only confirmed to be releasing in arcades in Japan, though we have seen trademarks registered for the game referring to a Wii U version.

What do you think of this announcement? Are you disappointed it’s not coming to Wii U immediately?
